'Easton PA' Phone App Now Available

Shopping in Easton, Pennsylvania? There's an app for that.

The Easton Main Street Initiative's smartphone app that's been in the works for a number of months to aid those shopping in the city is now available for download for Android smartphones.

A version for iPhone also went live today.

EMSI Assistant Manager Amy Boccadoro showed off the app on her smartphone Wednesday evening at the Easton Business Association's monthly mixer, held at Mesa Modern Mexican restaurant on South Third Street. About 50 local business owners, employees, and residents attended the event.

The downloadable gadget features a directory of Easton shops and services that allows users to virtually wander the city's Downtown and find events and things to do with a listings feature.

Boccadoro said the app may still undergo a few tweaks in coming weeks, but it's fully functional.

The Easton app was developed by Rokusek Design of Quincy, IL. The firm has also created shopping apps for its own hometown, Bedford, PA, and Ripley, WV.

Easton Police Seek Armed Robbery Suspect

A man reportedly robbed a small grocery store in Easton's Southside neighborhood today  shortly before 1:30 p.m. and city police are looking for the perpetrator.

Police say a man with a gun entered Kelly's Corner Market at 710 Line St. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured during the robbery, they added.

The suspect has been described as a black male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with a white belt and displayed a black handgun. Police added he may have fled east on Line Street.

Anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery or has any information about the event is asked to please call Easton Police detectives at 610-759-2200.

Easton Police Investigating Another Shooting Death

A 44-year-old man was shot and killed late Sunday night in Easton's Southside.

The man, who is from New York City, was reportedly found by police at about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Nesquehoning and McKeen streets.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek has ruled his death a homicide, and the  Easton Police Department, the Northampton County DA’s Office and the Northampton County Coroner’s Office are  all investigating the circumstances of the shooting, police said in a press release.

The victim's name name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

Investigators are reportedly looking for an unknown vehicle that fled the area after the shooting. The vehicle may have fled west on Nesquehoning Street to west on Canal Street, authorities said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting please call Inspector Daniel Reagan at 610-250-6796 or 610-759-2200. Those submitting tips may remain anonymous.

The homicide is the second in just over a week in Southside, and the fifth this year in the City of Easton.

Police are also still investigating the shooting death of Ervin Holton, who was killed last week. In that incident, no suspects have yet been officially named.

Easton Police Seek Information Related to Stabbing

Joaquin Martinez-Perez, 39, was stabbed Thursday night, Easton Police report.

Police found Martinez-Perez at the corner of North Warren and Willow streets at 10:18 p.m., bleeding from his head due to an apparent stab wound, they said.

His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment, they added.

Police say they believe the incident was not a random act, but instead was related to a domestic assault.

Their investigaton is continuing, and they have obtained a warrant to search Martinez-Perez's apartment in the 100 block on North Warren Street related to the incident.

No arrests have been made yet, but their investigation is still "very active," Easton police said.
