Comedy Writers to Give Talk at Lafayette College

Comedy writers John Warner and Teddy Wayne, known for their works in the Chicago Tribune and The New Yorker, will visit Lafayette College to give a talk on smart humor at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28 in Colton Chapel.

The event is free and open to the public.

John Warner is author of "The Funny Man" and a longtime editor-at-large at McSweeney's Internet Tendency. He also writes the Biblioracle column for the Chicago Tribune's Printer's Row Journal.

Teddy Wayne is the author of the novels "The Love Song of Jonny Valentine"  and "Kapitoil". The multi-award winning author is also a columnist for the New York Times, and his work regularly appears in The New Yorker, GQ, McSweeney's, and elsewhere. 

Following the presentation, both Warner and Wayne will be available for a book signing. Copies of both Warner's and Wayne's works will be available for purchase in the vestibule of the chapel.

John Holl, beer journalist and the editor of All About Beer Magazine,  will be signing copies of his new book, "The American Craft Beer Cookbook" at Weyerbacher Brewing Company's visitors center at 905 Line St. this Friday, November 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Holl has traveled the country and collected more than 150 recipes from breweries, brewpubs, chefs and beer-centric restaurants for his new cookbook that illustrate the delicious intersection on the culinary road where food and beer meet. In some cases beer is used as an ingredient, and every recipe discusses how to find a  perfect pint to bring the meal to a crescendo where the complexity, depth and breadth of a craft beer beautifully complements, contrasts with or enhances the flavors on the plate.

Geared towards the home cook, "The American Craft Beer Cookbook" covers everything from breakfast to dessert, salads, soups and entrees for every taste.

The book also includes a recipe from Weyerbacher for "Belgian Endive with Gruyère and Prosciutto".

Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the signing, a release from Weyerbacher about the event said.

Pollster John Zogby to Give Book Talk at Lafayette College

John Zogby, founder of the "Zogby Poll", will discuss his latest book, "First Globals: Understanding, Managing, and Unleashing the Potential of Our Millennial Generation," at 7 p.m. tomorrow evening, Oct. 9 in the Kirby Hall of Civil Rights auditorium, room 104, at Lafayette College.

An internationally respected pollster, opinion leader and best-selling author, Zogby’s recent work provides a detailed analysis of why he believes Americans born between 1979 and 1994 are truly more globally aware and sensitive, how they want to make their workplace and planet a better place, and how we begin to understand them and position them better to play out their destiny.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the talk, sponsored by the policy studies program at the college.

Springsteen Photographer to Give Talk at Easton Library

Debra Rothenberg has photographed Bruce Springsteen for 32 years, from performances in small Jersey Shore clubs to international stadiums. She’ll be at the Easton Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, to talk about her book "Bruce Springsteen in Focus 1980-2012". The book chronicles her photographic journey with more than 200 unique and memorable photos of The Boss.

Rothenberg has been a concert photographer for New York Daily News since 1999. Her extensive clientele includes ABC-TV, People, Rolling Stone Magazine, NYC Dept. of Health, Entertainment Weekly, Columbia/CBS Records, EMI Music Publishing, Prudential, New York University, Williams College, and The Port Authority of New York/New Jersey among many others.

Among her accomplishments is a National First Place award in the sports category from the National Press Photographers Association. One of her images also appeared on several Bruce Springsteen official tour t-shirts for his 1999-2000 World Tour.

Copies of "Bruce Springsteen in Focus 1980-2012" will be available for purchase at the Main Library and the Palmer Branch and at the book talk. This first edition hardcover sells for $28 (regularly priced $44.95). Rothenberg will sign books at the conclusion of her talk.

Author and TV Personality John Searles to Speak at Easton Public Library

Best-selling author John Searles will give a talk at the Easton Public Library next Wednesday, October 2 to discuss his latest novel, "Help for the Haunted".

Searles new book is described as being "an expertly-wrought, coming-of-age story with a healthy dose of creepiness." The plot centers around Sylvie Mason, whose demonologist parents are murdered in a church basement one snowy night after a mysterious phone call that brings them to the site. The tale offers "chills and family secrets that heighten the tension with each turn of the page."

Searles is the author of the best-selling novels "Boy Still Missing" and "Strange but True". He appears frequently on morning shows such as NBC’s Today, CBS’s The Early Show, and CNN to discuss favorite book selections. Searles is also editor-at-large for Cosmopolitan Magazine and can be heard on Sirius/XM’s Cosmo Radio. His essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, and other national media.

First edition hardcover copies of "Help for the Haunted" are available for purchase at the main and Palmer branches of the Easton Public Library, as well as at the book talk, for $18. Searles will sign books at the conclusion of the talk too.
