Local Branch of NAACP Plans Trip to Washington

The Easton Branch of the NAACP, along with the Bethlehem and Allentown branches, is inviting community members to join them in a trip to the national capitol city to participate in the 50th anniversary of the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom" next Saturday, August 24.

The cost of the trip is $25 per person, and buses will depart from an as-yet unannounced location in the Lehigh Valley. More details will be provided to those who sign up, an announcement about the event promised.

The rally will begin at 8 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial and be followed by a march to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

The Lincoln Memorial is the site of the iconic "I Have a Dream" speech given by King on August 28, 1963 at the original "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom" rally of the same date. More than 200,000 attended that political rally which became a key moment in the struggle for civil rights in the U.S. An entire week of events is planned in Washington DC to mark the historic event, in addition to the commemorative march and rally on Saturday.

Bus Tickets Available to Stop The Frack Attack in Washington DC

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network, along with the Sierra Club of Lehigh Valley, Occupy Easton and others, is organizing a bus trip from Easton to the Stop The Frack Attack rally and march in Washington, DC on Saturday, July 28.

The trip will depart from the Park & Ride, Route 33 and William Penn Highway in Palmer Township.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to sign in. Bus boarding is at 8:45 a.m., and the trip will depart promptly at 9 a.m.

A limited number of tickets are available. The cost is $29 per person.
