Weekend Guide, December 7 to 9

A very merry holiday season is heats up the December chill in the city--deck your halls with a wreath of your own design, have breakfast with Santa, go dancing or party the night away to some live music. And don't forget, parking is free in most of Easton's Downtown on both Saturday and Sunday--just one more reason to celebrate!

Peace Walk and Rally: 9 a.m. The walk will start at Greater Shiloh Church, 403 Pastor Fred Davis St. then proceed to Nesquehoning and McKeen streets, the site of last Sunday's murder of Paul A. Murray. The walk will proceed from there to Berwick Street to St. John Street to St. Joseph Street, where Ervin Holton died of gunshot wounds the week before. For more information, call the Greater Shiloh Church at 610-252-5640.

Nazareth Area Society of Model Engineers Holiday Train Show: 1 to 5 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring a small step stool for their children to help them see more of our layouts. "Santa Claus through History": 1 p.m. Historian Richard Hope gives an account of Santa's seventeen centuries, from 4th c. St. Nicholas in Asia Minor (Turkey) through influences from the Germanic Odin with an eight-legged flying horse and multiple incarnations to the present-day chubby fellow tracked on websites. Outdoor Live Nativity: 5 to 8 p.m. Volunteers of all ages will conduct an outdoor live nativity with live animals, music and narration.  Light refreshments will be offered and the grounds will be lit with candle luminaria for the Advent event.  Visitors can linger at the stable, enjoy the animals, socialize and gather around a celebratory fire which is held in the Scout Troup 29 Outdoor Education area.  At 6 p.m., a church service will be held in the Sanctuary of Arndt’s Lutheran Church; all are welcome. In the case of severe inclement weather (exteme cold, hard rains, deep snow) the event will be cancelled. Free.
