The committee develops NLC federal policy positions on issues involving air quality, water quality, energy policy, national wetlands policy, noise control and solid and hazardous waste management.
Panto said he is "honored to be named to this important committee at a time when environmental issues facing local governments are becoming more and more important to the overall sustainability of cities".
A former president of the Pennsylvania Municipal League and a member of the United States Conference of Mayors, Panto has been a member of the NLC for four years and has represented the organization in meetings with the US Environmental Protection Agency and White House staff.
The NLC says Panto will play a key role in shaping the organization's policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress as a member of the committee.
The National League of Cities added that it is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities and is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
