Blasting to Stop Traffic on Route 78

Traffic will be stopped on Route 78 in both directions in Williams Township on Tuesday, January 8 for about 15 minutes sometime between 1 and 2 p.m.

The traffic standstill is to allow blasting to safely occur at the landfill owned by  Chrin Brothers Inc., which is adjacent to the highway, according to a PennDOT announcement.

The state transportation agency also warned that motorists on Route 33 south near the interchange with Route 78 may also be affected when the flow of traffic is halted on Route 78.

"Expect delays and use caution driving through the area," PennDOT warns.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree!

Be sure to remove all the decorations, including lights, tinsel,
and icicle strands before you recycle your tree. Failure to
do so can damage chipping equipment - which in many cases
is paid for with your tax dollars!
No matter how much you might wish the holidays would never end, it's getting near time to take down the decorations and pack them away for next year.

If your tree is a natural one, though, it's better all around to send it off for recycling. And, in some places, it's even required.
Most municipalities in the Easton area have posted plans for tree recycling. Here's what to do with your tree, depending on where you live.

In the City of Easton:
Trees should be placed curbside in the same area used for garbage pickup with all decorations and strands completely removed. Trees may be wrapped in plastic bags, however, any trees bound by strings or rope will not be accepted as this may damage chipping equipment.

Scheduled pick up dates are:
  • Monday, January 7, College Hill
  • Tuesday, January 8, 10th Street east to Larry Holmes Drive
  • Wednesday, January 9, Southside, including The Highlands
  • Thursday, January 10, 10th Street west to 15th Street
  • Monday, January 14, College Hill
  • Tuesday, January 15, 10th Street east to Larry Holmes Drive
  • Wednesday, January 16, Southside, including The Highlands
  • Thursday, January 17, 10th Street west to 15th Street
Collection schedule and drop off times may vary due to weather conditions. Questions or concerns should be directed to the Public Works Department at 610-250-6680.
Trees may also be dropped off at the City of Easton Recycling Center, located at 500 Bushkill Drive, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Residents may drop off Christmas trees at the marked designated brush pile area at the township public works garage at 1051 Frost Hollow Road between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The recycling center at 2300 Morgan Hill Road is the place to  drop off Christmas trees. Remove all decorations, tinsel and bags from your natural tree before placing it inside the recycling bin. No artificial trees should be placed in this bin."

Christmas trees will be picked up during the weeks of January 7, January 14 and January 21.
Place your unbagged tree next to your trash on your regularly scheduled trash day with all decorations removed from the tree. They will be picked up separately from your trash and recycling.
If you have any questions or complaints related to  Christmas tree pick-up in Palmer Township, call J. P. Mascaro & Sons directly at 1-800-333-4624.

Neighborhood Association to Hold Holiday Party on Saturday

The College Hill Neighborhood Association (CHNA) will hold its fourth annual holiday party from 6 to 9 p.m. this Saturday, January 5.

The party is planned to be significantly larger than those of prior years and will feature music, wine and cheese, and raffle prizes, according to the announcement on the CHNA website.

"We're delighted to be a vehicle through which the community of Easton as a whole can come together to celebrate the holiday spirit," said CHNA president Phillip Hart in the announcement, adding that it's a good opportunity to meet neighbors and make new friends, as well as possibly join the CHNA.

All who attend are kindly asked to bring a favorite snack or holiday dessert to share at the party.
