Anthony Koury, deacon of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church on South Fourth Street, was recently honored on the occasion of his retirement from Notre Dame High School, where he was employed as the school's physical education director for 43 years.

Announced at last Wednesday's Easton City Council meeting, June 2 was proclaimed "Anthony Koury Day" in honor of his many years of service to the school and for his dedication to the community.

A retirement dinner was held for Koury at the church on June 2, Easton Mayor Sal Panto said, adding that he felt it appropriate to make the presentation of the resolution at the city council meeting due to Koury's many contributions to the community.

Additionally, a scholarship fund has been established at NDHS, a private Catholic high school, which is to help students who can't afford tuition fees attend.

While Koury has retired from teaching, he will continue as deacon of the church, he said, a position he will celebrate the 30th anniversary of on July 11.

Both Panto and Easton Councilman Mike Fleck attended Notre Dame, they said.
