"Superstorm" Sandy may have played a cruel trick on everyone, but kids in Easton, Wilson, and Forks Township finally got their Halloween treats Saturday.
Trick-or-treating in Easton was from 3 to 5 p.m., and for those in the West Ward, much of which was still without electrical service all week until around noon yesterday, it was definitely a cause for celebration.
Hundreds of local children--and many parents--dressed up for the occasion. They joyfully haunted the streets while happily claiming their candy.
Easton's Weed and Seed held a "safe trick-or-treating" event too, sponsored by contractor Nick Alfero, who treated the crowd to about 400 hamburgers and hot dogs Saturday afternoon as well.
Many in the crowd said they'd had a hard week without electricity and that being finally restored to service was what brought them out for a much-needed celebration.
"We finally got electricity back today around noon," said one woman handing out candy from her front porch on Ferry Street. "It's been really cold, and if that hadn't happened, I definitely would not be out here."
She added, "But this is good. I think we all really needed this."
