Weekend Guide, January 17 to 19

Lots of art and music happening in this weekend, plus, a whole bunch of people will be "freezin' for a reason"...yeah, that's Easton.

Lehigh Valley Super Plunge: Begins at noon, runs through noon on Saturday. As a prelude to the Second Annual Lehigh Valley Polar Bear Plunge to take place on Saturday, Super Plungers will take an icy dips (once every hour for 24 hours) into a pool filled with frigid water to raise both funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes throughout the Lehigh Valley. Second Annual Lehigh Valley Polar Bear Plunge: Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., plunge happens at noon through 2 p.m. Participants, including radio and TV personalities and Special Olympics PA athletes, will jump into the Delaware River to benefit Special Olympics Pennsylvania. A costume contest with prizes will take place at 11 a.m. too. Scott Park, Larry Holmes Drive just south of the free bridge. "Martin Luther King’s Birthday": 10 a.m. to noon. "Join in the birthday celebration of a boy who grew up listening and learning big words that help us all to learn ways to live together." Free. Art Opening - "Fighters": 2 to 5 p.m. Over the past year, Marco Calderon, an Allentown photojournalist, documented the young men and women who come to Luis Melendez's Boxing and Youth Program in Allentown. As Allentown's future brightens, so do the hopes and aspirations of these young boxers who, for a variety of reasons, see boxing as important to their futures. A silent auction for one of the photos will be held during the show, and individual photos or complete sets will be available for order and sale.  All of Calderon's profits will be donated to the youth program.
