Five cars in Easton's West Ward were damaged by fire on Saturday, and police are seeking a person of interest.
Police say they received a report at about 3:45 a.m. of Saturday morning of a car on fire in the 1100 block of Lehigh Street. Arriving at the scene, they found a car ablaze. While they were investigating, another vehicle, about a block away, on the 1200 block of Lehigh Street, was also found to be on fire.
Then, while authorites were still on the scene of the first two incidents, a third vehicle on the 1000 block of Lehigh Street, was also found to be on fire, police said.
The third car was extinguished before major damage was done, they added, and evidence was collected from all three scenes.
Just after 10 a.m., another vehicle on the 1200 block of Lehigh Street was reported to be damaged by fire. Police say the vehicle sustained moderate damage, but it appeared that the blaze had been extinguished several hours before their arrival.
A fifth vehicle was reported to be damaged by fire on the 1400 block of Washington Street at about 1:21 p.m. Police say that vehicle also sustained moderate damage, and like the fourth report, the fire seemed to have been extinguished several hours before.
Police have recovered evidence in each of the cases, and both detectives and the Easton Fire Department are investigating the incidents.
Additionally, the Easton Police Department is seeking to speak with "a person of interest"--a man who was seen in the 1200 block of Lehigh Street at the time of one of the fires. He is described as being white, about 5'10" to 6' tall, and wearing light colored clothing at the time of the incidents, and may have fled east on Lehigh Street.
There was also a report of a black vehicle fleeing the area around the time of the incidents early Saturday morning, police said.
Easton Police are asking for anyone in the area at the time of the fires or anybody with any information to contact Easton detectives at 610-250-6639 or the Easton Police tip line at 610-250-6635. Callers may remain anonymous.
