  1. Easton Eccentric - why the double standard? When crime happens in the West Ward, you never hesitate to say so, but when crime happens downtown, like this shooting, you only give the street number. This kind of double standard is prejudicial against the West Ward.

    1. There's definitely no intentional slight against any neighborhood on The Easton Eccentric. I think if you go back through our past crime reporting, you'll find most do specifically mention the neighborhood, and it's not just the West Ward.

If you look at the tags at the bottom of the article too, you'll notice "Downtown" is one of them. Pretty much all Easton Eccentric articles are tagged with neighborhood names, regardless if they're "positive" or "negative" stories.

That said, I'll be sure to keep your comment in mind for the future.

BTW, it might interest you to know that I live in the West Ward. I initially lived here when I moved to Easton, lived in Downtown for a while, and then recently moved back here. Yes, it's got some issues, but so does every place, whether in Easton or elsewhere. Personally, I very much enjoy the West Ward and love living here, in what may well be the most diverse and interesting neighborhood in an already diverse and interesting city.

Thanks for the comment--I really do appreciate the feedback!

    2. PS This is the way the story was announced on Twitter a little earlier: "A man was shot in the 300 blk of Downtown Easton 's Spring Garden St. this afternoon. … EPD says public not in danger."
